Up until 2005 I was a Glastonbury virgin. At the age of 33, can you believe it! After a hiatus of 2 years it’s now time to pack up the tent and head back to Pilton, only this time I’m not alone. This time I am being escorted by mini me and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited she is.
Having never slept in a tent before we had to embark on a little Glastonbury training in the garden this weekend. It was kind of make or break really. If the sleep over didn’t go well, I’d be heading down the the valley of Avalon alone.
On my last visit I was working hard filming some stuff for R1 and my Tesco tent faired well. My sleeping however wasn’t too hot. I think I got about 6 hours kip in all over the three days there, mostly due to the extreme discomfort of the floor! How short my memory is. I thought my garden was different, maybe my grass is more springy? No, I didn’t sleep a wink. I woke up with my eyes feeling like they were burning out from the inside. Mini me, however, had a cracking nights sleep. She loved the sleeping bag and thought the whole tent thing was the coolest. Although we paid for it over the next couple of days cos she was as grouchy as hell. I think our sleeping plan over the festival will need to be modified somewhat.
So how can I improve the sleeping arrangements? I did actually purchase a couple of inflatable matresses that I neglected to use this weekend. They are quite a challenge to blow up, so I might have to dig out an old bike pump to take with and give them a trial run in a few weeks. Hopefully this will aid some restful sleep for us both and increase our chances of a more enjoyable and less tired festival.
Keep checking for a report on our next training session and some useful ‘kids at Glastonbury’ links.
