Lets talk about the weather

Talking about the weather is a terribly english thing to to. So seeing as I am english, although perhaps not terribly, I will be mostly talking about the weather today!
It is desparately trying to snow. A flurry here, a flurry there, some of it settles, some of doesn’t. It’s cold, but then it’s winter. There is ice underfoot, and this morning I nearly fell on my arse. These are the dangers of winter.
The temperature in old London town was hovering around the zero degrees mark. In some cities that is almost t-shirt weather, but here in one of the most metropolitan of cities it is threatening to bring the whole place to a standstill! Way back in 2003 you may remember a large amount of snow was deposited over the south east of England making it nigh on impossible for the likes of me to get home (we’re talking a 45 minute train journey!). We can make excuses, the snow fell thick and fast and it was about 4 or even 5 inches deep! The tube network ground to a halt, the roads were grid locked and my bro and me had to walk to his house on the hill. Today however, it took me over two hours to do a 50 minute journey. It was cold…ish. There was snow, 4 or maybe even 5 millimetres and the points were frozen! I can’t believe how poor our train and transport network is that it can’t cope with a little cold snap! Take lessons from New York, Paris and Moscow. Their transport systems seem to work well in cold weather. Perhaps this is the reason that we are unlikely to win the 2012 olympics. Perhaps they should direct their hot air down a local tube tunnel and spend their marketing budget on something useful instead.
