HUNTER STOCKTON THOMPSON DEAD
Hunter S. Thompson father of ‘Gonzo Jounalism’ was found dead yesterday afternoon at his compound. It seems that his death was self inflicted. He was 67 or 65. No one is quite sure of his true age.
I have been a fan of HST for a while and have read a fair chunk of his published work from his first novel, ‘The Rum Diary’ to a more recent ‘Better Than Sex’ via ‘fear and Loathing’ and others… Having read the nearest thing to a Hunter biography, ‘Hunter’ it’s nothing short of a miracle that the good Dr made it this far. His legendary consumption of mind altering substances has left many of his contemporaries dead. His love of guns could have left many visitors dead and probably a mixture of the two has robbed us of one of the greatest writers of the last century. All this retrospective glorification would most likely be the last thing that Hunter Thompson would have wanted or expected but I am always surprised by the amount of people who have never heard of or read any HST. I talk to friends and colleagues about books we’ve read. We exchange recommendations about books and authors, mostly popular train books (see below) but rarely have they been exposed to the genius of Hunter. So… check Amazon and take your pick. Every one is a winner and worth a read.
Hunter S. Thompson rest in peace.
