Talking for the nation
Last week I faced a fear! I have a deep hatred of doing presentations. I have the fear! I hate standing up in front of people and telling them stuff. I sound stilted and embarassed and clam up for no reason. However….
Last week after a long process of refining the presentation and the facts contained within, I did two days worth (one on Tuesday and three on Thursday) of preso’s to a captive audience. Thanksfully I was talking about the project I work on and people are really interested in it so most of the work was done. After doing the first two I actually settled into it and didn’t find it half as scary as I thought I would. The audiences were small but inquisitive and responsive and that helped a lot too. There can be nothing worse than presenting to a group who just sit there and don’t make a sound.
So after a good few weeks sweating and doing apalling rehersals with boss, I actually got a pat on the back for my effort which is more than enough for doing the thing that I hate!
There are a few more of these presentations to do over the next few weeks right across the country, but boss has decided that there is schmoozing to be done so it is in her interest to attend and present instead of me or my colleague. Shame, ‘cos I was settling into it nicely and quite fancied a few more days out of the office.
Ho hum!
